The Manhattan College Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is designed to support participants and address roadblocks that can often be experienced by students from minority, low-income, and first-generation backgrounds. CSTEP engages eligible students who are completing majors that lead to careers in STEM or health-related fields through entrance into professional licensures.
As a statewide initiative that addresses regional and statewide STEM-related shortage areas, CSTEP has helped many students complete their degrees successfully and to a high standard by providing access to a pre-freshman summer program, tutors, academic coaches, advisement, and mentorships. In addition, there is assistance for participants with their postgraduate goals, which can include employment, pursuing a professional licensure, or accessing graduate degrees.
Each year, CSTEP will serve one hundred and sixty-five freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors studying in Manhattan College’s School of School of Engineering, School of Science, or School of Education and Health.
The Program Manager is a position available under a five-year grant program. The Program Manager, under the supervision of the Director of Opportunity Programs, and in concert with a second Program Manager will be required to:
- Assist with the recruitment of CSTEP participants
- Manage a caseload of students in the region of sixty to seventy
- Oversee the day-to-day management of CSTEP activities
- Provide academic advisement for enrolled students, facilitating regular meetings throughout the semester with each participant to discuss his or her progress and provide insights on topics such as financial aid and academic support
- Serve as a point person for organizing CSTEP activities and workshops, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support the mission of the Program and the College
- Track the CSTEP students’ participation and progress, and compile the data necessary for reports.
- Be an active member of the Opportunity Programs Summer Program that takes place between July and August for six weeks
- Maintain an “open door” policy to program participants.
- Perform other duties as required
- The Program Manager will be passionate about the goals of CSTEP
- S/he is required to have a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working with a similar population of students in a related program
- S/he will be required to have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in education, counseling, or a STEM field
