Part Time Academic Advisor

Reports to: Assistant Dean of Student Affairs

Closing date for applications is 5/23/2021. 

Hours: 25 hours per week – Day, evening and weekend hours

**This position requires the PA Child Abuse, PA State Police and FBI Fingerprinting clearances. 

**This position is College-wide and includes day, evening and weekend hours (particularly during peak periods) providing both on-site and virtual advising services as determined by the College. On-site locations include Blue Bell campus, Pottstown campus, and sometimes high school partner locations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This position provides one-on-one as well as group academic, career and college transfer advising to students resulting in a heightened level of student engagement, comprehensive decision-making and utilization of a vast array of services to support student success.

DUTIES

  • Provides academic, transfer and career counseling.
  • Advises prospective, new and returning students helping to build an educational plan that assists in meeting academic and/or professional goals.
  • Participates in case management for identified students (i.e. probation, Early Alert, etc.).
  • Participates in College outreach activities such as Open House, New Student Orientation, high school on-site advising, etc.
  • Supports other Student Services teams with answering and responding to academic advising calls, emails and participates in virtual advising sessions
  • Engages in on-going learning through innovative professional development including, but not limited to, workshops, conferences, and other professional meetings that promote currency in discipline knowledge and instructional methods.
  • Acts as a resource for faculty and staff.
  • Works as a collaborative, professional member of the Student Services teams.
  • Adheres to professional and ethical standards of conduct.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of student development theory, including career and transfer decision making.
  • Experienced in developmental or college level advising.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of technologies.
  • Evidence of continued professional growth and development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work with diverse populations, such as under-resourced groups and first-generation students.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a comprehensive community college philosophy.
