Summary / Definition:

The Program Advisor II reports to the Associate Director of Academic Advising and is responsible for providing informational and advisement services to students enrolled in the University’s degree programs. The Advisor will assume special assignments as assigned by the Associate Director and Senior Director.

Requirements:

Education: Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor’s degree or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority. Graduate degree preferred.

 Experience: A minimum of two years of professional experience in a field directly related to the positions’ functions to be filled or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.

Examples of Work:

  • Assists in all aspects of the Advisement Center: Program Planning, Student Correspondence, Individual Appointments, and the Telephone Center Expressline
  • Ensure students are aware of and adhere to established TESU policies and procedures
  • Build relationships with students
  • Assist students on Academic Warning and the development of a realistic plan to improve their TESU GPA and attain academic success and persistence
  • Recognize the unique differences and needs among students and support inclusion
  • Counsel students on establishing goals and making appropriate decisions
  • Advise students on aligning their academic and career goals at the associate, baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate levels; includes imparting information and guidance on developing program strategies, preparing for a career, and/or graduate educational goals 
  • Aid students in diagnosing academic strengths and weaknesses, analyze their advanced level degree needs in terms of appropriate area concentrations or specializations, and advise on particular courses, examinations, and other methods appropriate for satisfying specific degree requirements 
  • Monitor students’ progress in working toward degree requirements, including periodic analysis of student records to determine program requirements 
  • Support students throughout the lifecycle
  • Serves as a focal point in helping the student take advantage of the services offered by other offices of the University 
  • Comply with FERPA regulations

Support the student persistence and retention effort

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:  

  • Familiarity with philosophy and practices in student persistence and retention in higher education 
  • Experience working in an online environment with adult learners
  • Adept in multi-tasking, organizing and attention to detail
  • Ability to work with students through written correspondence, telephone, personal conference, and workshop settings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level commensurate with the demands of the position
  • Experience using a CRM is a plus
