Position Summary:

Manages the administrative activities of the residency/fellowship program as outlined in the accreditation program requirements and other regulatory agencies. Responsible for ensuring residents/fellows meet administrative and regulatory responsibilities while serving as the primary liaison between the Program Director, residents/fellows, program faculty, institutional Graduate Medical Education (GME) office, and affiliated teaching sites concerning program matters. Must demonstrate a broad knowledge of GME practices and principles, make recommendations and implement changes approved by program leadership, and may supervise or lead the work of others to ensure their programs achieve and maintain the highest quality standards in GME. Works under general supervision of the GME Programs Administrator, Department Administrator, or their designee, and in consultation and collaboration with the Program Director and the sponsoring institution’s DIO and Director of Graduate Medical Education.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in education, business, liberal arts, or related field.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

  • At least 2 years of relative experience is preferred.
  • Experience in educational administration and/or office management in an academic health care

setting is desirable.

  • Prefix assignment determined by years of relevant work experience. A minimum of 7 years’ experience is required for appointment at the senior level.

Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with professional students and build relationships

with institutional and national leaders, educators, and staff in Graduate Medical Education (GME).

  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to make difficult decisions and then support those decisions.
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to medical education.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficiency in the use of email as a communication tool.

Knowledge/Skills Preferred:

  • Understanding how assessment tools measure residents; performance in terms of goals and objectives and in terms of the competencies.
  • Technological and information systems fluency to use data for planning and ongoing evaluation, including database interfacing, spreadsheets, word processing, email, presentation software, and web-based systems.
