Position Purpose

This position is dedicated to advising and supporting programming for undergraduate student veterans. This is a 0.5 FTE term position beginning in April 2021 and ending in June 2022.

Required Qualifications – Education and Yrs Exp
Bachelors plus 2-3 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications – Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree with two years relevant work experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in student advising, addressing needs of students from underrepresented backgrounds and support programs that promote student success.
  • Experience with on-call responsibilities, student crisis management or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree with three years relevant work experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in student veteran advising, addressing their unique needs, and delivering support programs that promote their success.

Description

Student Advising 50%

  • Advises individual undergraduate veterans on academic, personal, and major/career matters.
  • Monitors the academic progress of student veterans and identifies and counsels those in “at risk” categories.
  • Initiates and supports veteran student withdrawals, Incomplete agreements, and readmission procedures on behalf of the Dean of Undergraduate Students.

Student Programming 30%

  • Plans, conducts, and evaluates incoming veteran student pre-Orientation, academic outreach and organizes topical programs for student veterans. Discusses transfer process to the college.
  • Partners with Admissions colleagues in the development and execution of on campus veteran recruitment events.
  • Serves as a subject-matter expert in response to inquiries regarding undergraduate veteran support and related programming at Dartmouth.
  • Plans and executes end of the year celebration for the veteran community with a specific focus on those graduating.
  • Supports SVA Chapter on campus.

Student Counseling 20%

  • Responds to inquiries and concerns from faculty, colleagues, students and parents regarding college policies and individual student circumstances.
  • Writes recommendation letters for graduate school applications, academic programs, and employment when requested.
