Job Description
The College of Integrative Sciences and Arts is actively seeking a full time Academic Success Advisor to provide academic advising for undergraduate Tempe and Online students.

The Academic Success Advisor acts as a key contributor to promoting and supporting student retention and graduation university-wide, supports and advises students in making timely progress toward degree completion through a range of in-person and virtual academic counseling and support strategies.

Salary Range: $43,000 per year

Essential Duties
Serve as a professional academic advisor for the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts (CISA), advising undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Interdisciplinary Studies, Organizational Leadership (Project Management), and Organizational Studies.

A successful candidate will advise students on university general studies, degree requirements, academic policies and procedures. Update student records in DARS and PeopleSoft to reflect student progress. Answer student inquiries via Salesforce. Assist students in setting academic and career goals and provide appropriate referrals to ASU resources for academic success. Frequently collaborate with university partners to ensure students have accurate information regarding degree requirements. Meet with students in person, via phone, e-mail, Zoom, classroom visits, and orientation programs. Present to students, families and the larger ASU community on transitional advising and the degree programs supported. Responsibilities may require some evening hours and occasional weekend assignments. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree AND one (1) year or more previous experience in one or more of the following: advising, student recruitment/retention or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in retention, graduation, and academic planning; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master’s Degree in a related field AND one-year experience in one or more of the following: academic advising; student recruitment/retention; related student services and/or teaching in an institution of higher education.
  • Experience providing student-facing support to undergraduate students and/or diverse college student populations who could be considered at-risk or in transition
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development concepts and practice in implementing academic advising strategies
  • Experience assisting students in setting academic and career goals and referring to university offices and resources to support student success
  • Experience developing collaborative approaches and strategic solutions for student requests; clearly develop and convey the nuances of outcomes verbally and in writing 
  • Experience in work that requires attention to detail and demonstrated complex problem-solving skills
  • Experience collaborating with both internal and external academic partners
  • Experience creating presentation materials and delivering oral presentations in group settings
  • Demonstrated knowledge and extensive use of student information systems (i.e. PeopleSoft, DARS, Salesforce)
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular climate-controlled office subject to extended periods of sitting. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds. Clearly communicate verbally to perform essential duties.

Ability to utilize computer, phone, and additional office equipment (printer, fax, etc.) Ability to work both independently or within a complex structured team. Work from general instructions on standard job duties and specific directions/instructions on new assignments. Exercise judgment within defined procedures & practices to determine appropriate action.
