Job Summary:

To meet the need of the expanding role of the advisor in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, including acting as a liaison to faculty, referrals to support services, teaching needs, program development, and training of new-hires and use of developmental advising.

Essential Duties:

Advises online and campus based students using advanced advisement skills. Has a detailed knowledge of campus resources and identifies common problems among students and implements preventive measures. Reviews the student’s comprehension of the advising syllabus and clarifies any misunderstandings. Evaluates files for acceptance into the College of Nursing and Health Innovation and reviews files upon graduation. Identifies and implements processes to improve communications and access for online and campus based students, which includes: a) Reviewing and updating fliers and other communications tools for the campus based and online students and b) Evaluating policies related to advising and updates the advising syllabus based on changes within the University and the College of Nursing and Health Innovation. Probation Advising- Identifies students with academic and/or psychosocial problems. Has the ability to assess student’s life factors and individualize each advising session. Evaluates student’s developmental level and assists with goal setting, decision-making, and empowerment. Represents the College of Nursing & Health Innovation at targeted recruitment and student events. Academic Advisor III’s are responsible for the development and implementation of an Advisor Training Program. They will act in a leadership role and train academic advisors as well as have input in the hiring process. Also responsible for orienting newly hired advisors. Assists in the absence of the Assistant Director. Responsibilities may include: data collection, preparation of reports and accountability for meeting program objectives, manage more complex academic advising activities, and assessment and implementation of operations. Could assist with other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree. Six (6) years of higher education experience working with college students or adolescents in an academic advising capacity or the equivalent experience. One (1) year of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree and two years of experience in a related field. Excellent communications skills. Strong computer skills, including but not limited to MS Office, PeopleSoft (MyMav) or other university student information management system.
