Duties:

OUTREACH and ENGAGEMENT Participates in designing, implementing, assessing, and enhancing CBPP’s
Student Advising Center communication plan. Determines appropriate communication methods for specific initiatives. Develops, maintains, and
tracks communication initiatives including website announcements, calendars, and updates. Collaborates with the CBPP associate dean, CBPP
Information Systems manager, marketing and outreach personnel to create, produce, and distribute written materials and electronic
communications such as advertising, marketing, brochures, newsletters, flyers, event schedules, emails, internal messaging and other written
and electronic content. Proofreads and edits communication materials for grammar, clarity and style. Serves as liaison between CBPP’s
standing scholarship committee and the University Financial aid Office to promote the availability and facilitate the selection and awarding
of annual program scholarships and tuition assistance for students.

RETENTION Participates in creating, executing, evaluating, and improving CBPP’s retention
strategies and programs. Develops, organizes, and directs a variety of programs promoting student success and retention, including designing
and presenting workshops and one-on-one sessions to assist with transitions for first-time freshman, transfer students and graduate
students. Works with various programs to encourage relationship building within cohorts, with faculty, staff and alumni. Establishes
opportunities for students to be mentored by peers and faculty.

RECRUITMENT Plays principal role in developing, implementing, evaluating, and refining CBPP’s
recruitment strategies and programs, including delivering, coordinating and hosting orientations, organizing or contributing to college
transition workshops, making presentations at events and area schools, collaborating with UAA Admissions Office efforts and events and other
student recruiting activities.

OTHER Generates and distributes reports as required. Processes, reviews, evaluates, and maintains documents such as academics
petitions, transcripts, and test scores. Provides additional support as necessary for the Student Advising Center and CBPP.

ACADEMIC ADVISING Participates in
developing, implementing, evaluating, and refining CBPP’s advising program goals and strategies for the approximately 1,300 business majors
on the UAA campus. Assists students with negotiating CBPP and university programs and processes from admissions through graduation by
providing information and guidance to individual students and to groups. Helps students with cognitive growth and developing accountability
for their academic decisions and an understanding of how those decisions affect their success. Counsels students with identifying options in
resolving academic issues. Collaborates with other academic units and student services departments throughout the university to facilitate
student support. Makes recommendations and informs students regarding course requirements, offerings, and selections to help meet their
educational goals. Plans and conducts orientations for new students and transfer students. Assess student issues or concerns and when
appropriate, makes timely referrals to relevant services such as Student Health Center, Financial Aid, and Career Services. Informs students
and the public about a variety of topics such as university, campus, and department requirements, policies and procedures. Interprets tests
and assessment tools such as ACT, SAT, and Accuplacer to determine students’ aptitudes and appropriate course placement. Reviews and
interprets degree audits and advise students on potential career and graduate program options. Knows and adheres to FERPA regulations and
confidentiality procedures. Ensures student records are maintained in accordance with relevant processes, policies, and
procedures.

  • Exceptional
    oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking. Enthusiasm for student success and an aptitude for
    listening and solving problems from an empathetic perspective. Ability to work as a full participant in a team-oriented situation, while
    exercising good judgment and an active sense of humor, and experience working effectively in a fast-paced, client-focused service
    setting.
  • Knowledge of university environment and experience or familiarity with academic advising processes and principles. Ability
    to comprehend and apply university policies and procedures as they relate to students and to refer students to relevant offices for
    assistance. Knowledge of best practices, federal and state laws and legal issues associated with and applicable to student services and
    higher education, including FERPA rules.
  • Knowledge of varied communication methods, including electronic, written and promotion.
    Ability to troubleshoot situations to determine the best course of action. Ability to apply theories gained through experience and
    education. Ability to lead other staff members and student workers.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • High-level communication skills and experience communicating in public and professional settings.
  • Proficiency with a range of
    software applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet browsers, etc.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and
    task.
  • Experience with a university environment. Interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills; ability to understand and
    appreciate individual needs and the ability to initiate appropriate steps to address those needs; occasional travel may be required.
  • Database management abilities.
  • Innovative and creative ideas and problem-solving strategies are important in this
    position.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Bachelor’s degree and two years relevant experience, or an
equivalent combination of training and experience.

UAA’s College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP) is a dynamic academic
resource that serves and reflects Anchorage, Alaska’s largest metropolitan community. Accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate
Schools of Business (AACSB), the College has an impressive faculty who bring a wide range of academic and industry expertise to students and
community partners. CBPP students represent all age groups, ethnicities and backgrounds.

The College offers
several degree programs: Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA); Bachelor of Arts (BA); Master of Business Administration (MBA); Master
of Public Administration (MPA); and Master of Science in Global Supply Chain Management (MSGSCM). In addition to its Baccalaureate and
Graduate degree programs, the College has Associate degrees in Accounting, Business Computer Information Systems, Logistics and Supply Chain
Operations and Small Business Administration. The College also provides professional training through occupational endorsement and
certificate programs in Logistics and Supply Chain Operations.

Students have a variety of areas from which
to choose with Baccalaureate degree majors in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Global Logistics, Management (Property Management and Real
Estate concentration option), or Marketing.

This is a full-time, Grade 78, minimum $23.84/hr, DOE, 12-month position
complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
