Academic Advisor for Post-licensure Nursing Programs

The Office of Academic Advising is recruiting for an Academic Advisor for Post-licensure Nursing Programs on the Portland Campus. The
Academic Advisor develops and implements advising programs focused on retention and persistence of post-licensure School of Nursing
undergraduate and graduate students. The Academic Advisor provides program support for post-licensure programs in the School of Nursing,
supervises work study student employees that support School of Nursing post-licensure functions. This position has primary responsibility to
provide proactive, holistic advising for the School of Nursing populations including RN to BSN students, MSN students, and other populations
as required. A review of applications will begin immediately and will be accepted through September 19, 2021.

Primary
Duties and Responsibilities
:

  • Work collaboratively with the School of Nursing Dean, Associate Dean, RN to BSN Program
    Coordinator, Graduate program coordinators, and nursing faculty to promote positive academic experiences in the online post-licensure
    nursing majors.
  • Deliver inclusive advising to support students in online programs in the school of nursing.
    • Maintain
      current academic plan for each advisee.
    • Provide continual support to all advisees encouraging persistence when appropriate.
  • Liaison between school of nursing faculty and students.
    • Meet regularly with online nursing instructors to promote
      collaboration and ensure complete understanding of course content, School of Nursing processes and procedures.
    • Introduce faculty to
      changes in advising procedures.
    • Work in partnership with instructors to integrate new strategies to retain at-risk students.
  • Advise RN-BSN students and BSN credentialed nurses for entry into the MSN graduate program.
  • Collaborate with
    admissions and recruitment to facilitate transition to advising for matriculating online post-licensure undergraduate and graduate
    students.
  • Assist and support orientation programming for new students.
  • Represent advising in admissions informational
    presentations and orientation programs.
  • Maintain up-to date academic progress information for students including those on a leave
    of absence as determined by their re-enrollment term.
  • Collaborate with Registrar’s office and admissions to coordinate the
    graduation application process for RN-BSN and MSN students.
  • Assist with commencement and pinning ceremonies as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge and familiarity of institutional curriculum and policy, particularly information related to nursing students.
  • Work with nursing faculty, staff, advising staff and student success team to maximize student persistence via Academic Alert
    system.
  • Support School of Nursing partnership relationships by meeting with stakeholders, providing student data and statistics as
    requested.

    • Report Ben Hudnall Memorial Trust students’ progress and grades to BHMT Project Manager after each semester
      ends.
    • Report Paquet Scholarship enrollment data and GPA information.
    • Report to Oregon Community College partners as
      needed.
    • Assist with Community College Partner Summit annually.
  • Provide referrals to student support offices
    including Learning Support Services, Financial Aid, Veterans Services, and Career Development.
  • Actively participate on university,
    School of Nursing and Advising specific committees
  • Coordinate with the Director of Academic Advising to provide regular
    professional development and training opportunities for faculty advisors and staff.
  • Engage in professional development
    opportunities. Incorporate new information into the department’s procedures to utilize best practices
  • Periodically
    review professional advising literature in order to update or develop advising materials, programs, and procedures for the School of
    Nursing.
  • Assist with training of new academic advising staff.
  • Manage other projects as assigned by the Director of
    Academic Advising.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in
academic advising or related field, or an equivalent combination or education and experience demonstrating:

  • Effective, practical
    experience in the field of advising adult students and/or student support services.
  • Excellent customer service, verbal
    communication and interpersonal skills, and group presentation public speaking experience.
  • Ability to communicate the merits of a
    liberal arts education, specifically at Linfield University.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated organizational and recordkeeping skills, and attention to details.
  • Working
    effectively with diverse cultures.
  • Sensitivity to issues of confidentiality.
  • Proficient computer skills using Word, Excel,
    Colleague, Slate, or similar applications.
  • Must possess valid Oregon driver’s license, have a good driving record, and
    ability to become and remain certified as a driver of University vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in appropriate higher education major.
  • Minimum three years of experience in online advising.
  • Knowledge of community colleges and their role in higher education.
  • Knowledge of nursing profession, nursing education, and
    healthcare organizations.
  • Admissions and/or Higher Education experience.
  • Experience using social media and other online
    tools for advising and communication.

Job Complexity:

Position functions with general supervision for
new or unusual situations or assignments and limited supervision for regular work. Work regularly calls for decisions, problem solving,
and/or recommendations within the scope of position responsibilities. Consideration of facts and options is required, but decisions usually
have some precedent, resulting in only limited risk regarding outcome.

Job Location

This position is
housed on the School of Nursing Campus in Portland, Oregon with occasional travel to the McMinnville campus. Based on the needs of the
School of Nursing and the population served, this position requires contact and advising via phone, email, Zoom, and/or in-person with some
evening and weekend work.

Planning:

Plans own work. Recommends policy and internal operational
improvements. Independently plans,develops, and ensures implementation of student retention programs.

Requirements:

Work is performed in an office environment is sedentary in nature. Constant seeing, hearing, sitting and
talking. Frequent repetitive movement of hands, wrists, and fingers, walking, climbing stairs, sitting, and travel either by air or
automobile. Occasional standing and bending, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Occasional exposure to weather elements when walking from building
to building on campus.
